Jan. 26 (UPI) -- Dakota Johnson says the Fifty Shades film series taught her to see sex toys in a new light. The 27-year-old American actress discussed her new appreciation for the world of BDSM in the March issue of Glamour U.K. prior to the premiere of Fifty Shades Darker co-starring Jamie Dornan.

"Oh some of that stuff is just so beautiful! When we first started on Fifty Shades, that wasn't a world I was privy to at all, and I soon found out there all these different tiers," Johnson told the magazine.
"There are some things out there that are really grimy and nasty, and then there are really beautiful, intricate and chic toys," she elaborated. "Actually, whole aspects of the BDSM world are truly beautiful."
The Fifty Shades movies are based on the E.L. James erotic book trilogy, which follows the romance between inexperienced college student Ana (Johnson) and BDSM-loving businessman Christian (Dornan). The first film, Fifty Shades of Grey, opened in 2015, with Fifty Shades Darker to open Feb. 10.
"This project is not going to be my swan song," Johnson said. "It has put my life on a path that I didn't plan to go down, but I do feel proud of it."
"It's not that it has put me off entirely, but I'm ready to do other stuff," she admitted. "And maybe they will be sexy [projects], or maybe they will be the complete opposite. But I do know that I'm ready to move on."
Johnson and Dornan will make their final appearance as Ana and Christian in Fifty Shades Freed, which opens in February 2018. The actress recently said in the February issue of Vogue that filming the movies' sex scenes with Dornan was an uninhibited and "very trusting" experience."
