Jan. 23 (UPI) -- Warner Bros. has released an action-packed trailer for its upcoming, medieval epic King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, starring Charlie Hunnam as the titular monarch.

Directed by Guy Ritchie, the film stars Jude Law, Eric Bana, Astrid Bergès-Frisbey, Djimon Hounsou and Aidan Gillen. It is set for release on May 12.

The studio described the movie in a press release "as an iconoclastic take on the classic Excalibur myth, tracing Arthur's journey from the streets to the throne."

"When the child Arthur's father is murdered, Vortigern, Arthur's uncle, seizes the crown. Robbed of his birthright and with no idea who he truly is, Arthur comes up the hard way in the back alleys of the city. But once he pulls the sword from the stone, his life is turned upside down and he is forced to acknowledge his true legacy... whether he likes it or not," the synopsis said.

The 45-second clip has already gotten nearly 400,000 views since it was released Sunday. The trailer shows characters diving off of a cliff, fist fighting and riding horses, as well as armies clashing.
