Jan. 19 (UPI) -- Power Rangers released a new trailer Thursday that introduces the superheroes' mentor Zordon.

The preview sees the rangers -- Red (Dacre Montgomery), Pink (Naomi Scott), Blue (RJ Cyler), Yellow (Becky G) and Black (Ludi Lin) -- master their powers with Zordon's help and take on the villain Rita Repulsa (Elizabeth Banks).

Power Rangers is based on the television series Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, which was previously adapted for film in the 1990s. Cranston voiced Snizzard and Twin Man during the first season of the TV show.

"35 years later, lo and behold, there's this new Power Rangers and I went, 'Really?' [They said], 'They'd like you to be a part of it and play Zordon,'" the actor said of his casting on The Jess Cagle Interview in July.

"I talked to the producer and he said, 'Do you know how the Batman television series then transformed into being the Batman movie series? Could not be more different from each other. That's what this is going to be,'" he recalled.

"I saw a teaser reel of what they already shot, talked to the director [Dean Israelite], and it truly is. It's a completely reimagined retelling of this story. It's very real. The kids are strong actors, they're fun," the star lauded. "I'm excited."

Power Rangers opens in theaters March 24.
