LOS ANGELES, Jan. 13 (UPI) -- Jason Momoa says landing the role of Aquaman led to the "best moment" of his career. The 37-year-old actor explained in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter why he's grateful to play the character in Justice League and other DC Comics movies.

"I haven't been an actor who's been able to pick and choose roles, and being a family man, it's been about putting food on the table," he said. "This has been the best moment of my career because the superhero roles are letting me get the other roles I want."
Momoa was confirmed as Aquaman in 2014, and debuted as the character in the 2016 film Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. He was previously known for playing Khal Drogo on the HBO series Game of Thrones.
"You get a lot of respect for Game of Thrones, and it was a lot of fun to play, but it didn't help my career a lot because Khal Drogo doesn't even speak English," the star said in the interview.
Momoa will return as Aquaman in Justice League, which opens in theaters Nov. 17, 2017. He will also star in the solo movie Aquaman, which opens in October 2018 and co-stars Amber Heard and Patrick Wilson.
"It was a very weird feeling," the actor said in an interview with The List in 2015 of keeping his casting secret for years. "Aquaman was like winning the lottery but you can't spend any of it."
Momoa also plays Declan Harp on the Netflix series Frontier, which was renewed for a second season in October. He will appear in the action film Braven with Stephen Lang and reportedly star in a remake of The Crow.
