LOS ANGELES, Dec. 22 (UPI) -- Director Denis Villeneuve is being eyed to helm an upcoming reboot of Dune for Legendary.
According to Variety, the studio prior to Thanksgiving acquired the rights to the iconic novel of the same name with options to produce films or television projects.
Interest in Villeneuve handling Dune comes as the 49-year-old is preparing Blade Runner 2049, a sequel to another classic sci-fi series. That film starring Ryan Gosling and a returning Harrison Ford released its first trailer Monday.
Dune, which tackles themes of politics religion and nature, follows main protagonist Paul Atreides whose family controls the desert planet Arrakis, the only producer of a highly-valuable resource. Once the family is betrayed, Atreides leads a rebellion to take the planet back.
