BURBANK, Calif., Nov. 28 (UPI) -- Zootopia has been nominated for a leading 11 Annie Awards, the International Animated Film Society, ASIFA-Hollywood announced Monday. Following close behind is Kubo and the Two Strings with 10 nods.
Shortlisted for Best Animated Feature -- along with the aforementioned movies -- are Finding Dory, Kung Fu Panda 3 and Moana.
The nominees for the organization's newest category for lower budget movies -- Best Feature-Independent -- are Long Way North, Miss Hokusai, My Life As a Zucchini, The Red Turtle and Your Name.
"Once again, this year has seen another increase in Annie submissions, and a continuing and broadening interest from not only the animation community, but also the film industry in general," ASIFA's executive director, Frank Gladstone, said in a statement. "We are ever mindful that the Annie Awards have become an early and welcomed addition into the 'award season' mainstream."
The winners will be announced at a black-tie ceremony on Feb. 4 at UCLA's Royce Hall.
