LOS ANGELES, Nov. 23 (UPI) -- The upcoming Tomb Raider reboot starring Alicia Vikander will focus on main character Lara Croft's search for her father according to the film's producer.

"Well this is kind of what we call a 'back to the roots story.' This is a young Lara Croft in search to see if her father is dead or alive, so it has a very emotional part to it and i think that's what Alicia found so interesting about it," producer Graham King said recently while speaking with HeyUGuys.

"I think the storytelling is really good and i think we've got the right crew and a great director and I think it's going to be really fun making a film like this," he continued.

Previously, Vikander who was cast as the iconic dual pistol wielding adventurer back in April, stated that the film would be "based on the reboot of the game from 2013."

"That is more of an origin story. You get into an emotional aspect of getting to know Lara hopefully in an in-depth way. So I hope that doing a film of the rebooted game will bring something new and fresh that'll stand on its own two legs," she continued at the time about the source material.

The video game series, which has sold over 35 million units, first debuted in 1996 for the original Playstation. The latest series which includes 2013's Tomb Raider and 2015's Rise of the Tomb Raider feature a younger, less experienced, more realistic Lara Croft as she continues to explore the world in the search for treasure much in the same vein as Indiana Jones.

Notably, Lara Croft's father Richard James Croft, has been portrayed in the video game series in the past as an adventurous archaeologist much like his daughter.

Directed by Roar Uthaug, the Tomb Raider film reboot is expected to enter production soon and release towards the end of 2017.
