LOS ANGELES, Nov. 10 (UPI) -- Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets released an epic first teaser trailer Thursday.

The preview sees American actor Dane DeHaan and English actress Cara Delevingne gear up as Valerian and Laureline, government special operatives tasked with maintaining order throughout the universe.

Valerian is based on the Pierre Christin and Jean-Claude Mezieres comic series Valerian and Laureline. The adaptation is directed by The Fifth Element helmer Luc Besson, and co-stars Clive Owen, Rihanna and Kris Wu.

"I kick [expletive]!" Delevingne said in a behind-the-scenes video in April. "I love it so much. My kind of tomboy comes out. It's kind of always what I wanted to do, especially as a kid. I feel like I'm kind of living my dream."

"I can't even imagine what it's going to be like for the audience," she added. "[They will] be completely blown away visually, emotionally. Every particle of their body will be blown away."

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets opens in theaters July 21, 2017. DeHaan and Delevingne will also co-star in Justin Chadwick's adaptation of the Deborah Moggach novel Tulip Fever, which opens Feb. 24.
