Adams turned heads in a custom Versace dress with metallic embroidery, while Renner looked dapper in a navy three-piece suit. The actress was accompanied by husband Darren Le Gallo, whom she married in 2015 after 15 years of dating.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams was among the other celebrities at the event. The director was all smiles as he posed for photos with Adams and Renner on the red carpet.

Arrival is directed by Denis Villeneuve (Prisoners, Sicario) and co-stars Forest Whitaker, Michael Stuhlbrg and Tzi Ma. The movie is based on the Ted Chiang short story Story of Your Life, which follows a linguist (Adams) enlisted to communicate with a race of aliens.

"It's about the way we communicate with each other, the relationships that we have, the way we move through the world and the choices that we make," Adams told Entertainment Weekly in August.

"Denis has this great sense of humor and he's this gentle, thoughtful man," Renner added. "It's heart-wrenching and beautiful and you'll walk out weeping. It was his direction that made it that way."

Arrival opens in theaters Nov. 11. Adams will also star in Nocturnal Animals with Jake Gyllenhaal, while Renner is slated for M:I 6 - Mission Impossible with Tom Cruise and Avengers: Infinity War.
