LOS ANGELES, Nov. 3 (UPI) -- Sony Pictures has released a trailer for director Danny Boyle's upcoming film Trainspotting 2.

"Twenty years have gone by," reads a message that accompanies the two-minute clip for the dark comedy on YouTube.

"Much has changed, but just as much remains the same. Mark Renton (played by Ewan McGregor) returns to the only place he can ever call home. They are waiting for him: Spud (played by Ewen Bremner), Sick Boy (played by Jonny Lee Miller), and Begbie (played by Robert Carlyle.) Other old friends are waiting, too: sorrow, loss, joy, vengeance, hatred, friendship, love, longing, fear, regret, diamorphine, self-destruction and mortal danger, they are all lined up to welcome him, ready to join the dance."

Based on Irvine Welsh's novel and set in 1980s Scotland, the original 1996 movie is a cult classic about the exploits of young heroin addicts. Trainspotting 2 is due in theaters Jan. 27.
