Minnie Driver: 'Good Will Hunting' producer said I wasn't 'hot enough'

NEW YORK, Oct. 13 (UPI) -- Minnie Driver says a Good Will Hunting producer deemed her not "hot enough" for the film.

The 46-year-old English actress revealed on Wednesday's episode of Watch What Happens Live that co-stars Matt Damon and Ben Affleck fought for her to keep her role in the 1997 movie after a producer criticized her looks.

"The producer of Good Will Hunting did not think I was hot enough to be in that film and did not want me in the film," Driver said. "Matt Damon, Ben Affleck and [director] Gus Van Sant fought very hard for me to play that role and I am grateful to them to this day.

"[It stung], but I was also together enough to know that hotness is a perception and it's really a point of view. This dude was no picnic to look at, so it's like, 'That's all right. I'll take that, man. I don't want to be your type,'" she added.

Driver, who played Will's (Damon) love interest Skylar in the movie, also opened up on the episode about her past assault. The star had revealed Tuesday that she was physically assaulted by a stranger when she was 17.

"It was deeply unpleasant and I was genuinely made to feel by the local police -- I was in Greece at the time -- that if I hadn't been provocative and if I had just gone along with what this guy wanted me to do, that I wouldn't have gotten beaten up," she said.

"I think it's important to talk about it. There's never been a better time to speak up. For young women to feel like they can say no and that they have a voice and that nobody gets to grab you by anything unless you want them to," the star asserted.

Driver presently stars as Maya DiMeo on the ABC sitcom Speechless. The actress, who released her third album, Ask Me to Dance, in 2014, told fans Wednesday that she will start work on her next record after she wraps filming on the show.
