LOS ANGELES, Oct. 11 (UPI) -- The studio behind last summer's comedy hit Bad Moms has announced a spinoff film set for 2017 entitled Bad Dads.

"Where other studios have automatically green lit traditional and significantly more expensive sequels, STX has determined those sequels on average are grossing 68% less than the originals," the studio said in a statement Monday when announcing the project.

STX also revealed how instead of a traditional sequel, the series would be turned into a brand that will produce a reality television show and digital content.

"Instead, STX has chosen to focus on extending consumer passion for the Bad Moms brand with a series of film spinoffs, a reality television show, short form digital content, and a robust consumer products program," they continued.

Bad Moms which starred Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell and Kathryn Hahn, earned $170 million at the global box office after it released towards the end of July.

Bad Dads has a set release date of July 14, the same day Fox is dropping War for the Planet of the Apes. Casting and plot details have yet to be announced.
