'Girl on the Train' tops the North American box office with $24.7M

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 9 (UPI) -- The sexy mystery movie The Girl on the Train is the No. 1 film in North America, earning $24.7 million in receipts this weekend, BoxOfficeMojo.com announced Sunday.

Coming in at No. 2 with $15 million is Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, followed by Deepwater Horizon at No. 3 with $11.8 million, The Magnificent Seven at No. 4 with $9.2 million and Storks at No. 5 with $8.5 million.

Rounding out the top tier are The Birth of a Nation at No. 6 with $7.1 million, Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life at No. 7 with $6.9 million, Sully at No. 8 with $5.3 million, Masterminds at No. 9 with $4.1 million and Queen of Katwe at No. 10 with $1.6 million.
