Alfonso Cuaron's next film to be set in 1970s Mexico

TORONTO, Sept. 8 (UPI) -- Alfonso Cuarón is writing and scheduled to start shooting in Mexico this fall a project about a year in the life of a middle-class family in Mexico City in the early 1970s.

"This film is close to my heart and my first in Mexico since Y Tu Mamá También. I am thrilled to be making it with the Participant team," Cuarón said in a statement Thursday about the as-yet-untitled project.

"Alfonso is a master storyteller, who breaks cultural boundaries around the world by skillfully connecting audiences through the power of cinema. We are elated to be joining him on this film," added David Linde, chief executive officer of Participant Media, which is partnering with Cuaron on the movie.

Cuaron's other films include Gravity, Children of Men, A Little Princess and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
