'Don't Breathe' tops North American box office with $26 million

The horror movie ended the three-week reign of "Suicide Squad" as the No. 1 film in the United States and Canada.

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 28 (UPI) -- Don't Breathe is the No. 1 movie in North America this weekend, earning $26 million in receipts, BoxOfficeMojo.com announced Sunday.

The Jane Levy-Stephen Lang horror movie ended the three-week reign of Suicide Squad as the top film in the United States and Canada. The supervillain ensemble picture dropped to No. 2 this weekend, earning an additional $12.1 million.

Coming in at No. 3 is Kubo and the Two Strings with $7.9 million, followed by Sausage Party at No. 4 with $7.7 million and Mechanic: Resurrection at No. 5 with $7.5 million.

Rounding out the top tier are Pete's Dragon at No. 6 with $7.28 million, War Dogs at No. 7 with $7.25 million, Bad Moms at No. 8 with $5.8 million, Jason Bourne at No. 9 with $5.2 million and Ben-Hur at No. 10 with $4.5 million.
