NEW YORK, July 20 (UPI) -- Actress and recording artist Keke Palmer says she was happy to help her mammoth character Peaches evolve over two Ice Age animated movies.

"I was so excited to be doing Ice Age. The first one, it was just such a thrill and, so, this time, the second time around, I really wanted to expand even more so in this animation world," the 22-year-old Illinois native told UPI at a recent New York press conference promoting Ice Age: Collision Course.

"It's not as easy as we think going in. So, I really had to learn how to put the emotion on the voice and I had to do a lot of that this one because there is a big thing going on with Peaches. Peaches is getting ready to get married and she's got to let her parents know it's OK to let her go. So, that was all really exciting -- learning how to really express that emotion through my voice and not just saying the words. That was a fun process. Hopefully, I got it right."

Featuring the voice talents of Ray Romano, Queen Latifah, Denis Leary and John Leguizamo, Ice Age: Collision Course opens nationwide Friday. The fifth installment in the film franchise follows the iconic pre-historic creatures as they try to survive extinction from an impending asteroid collision with Earth.

Palmer previously lent her voice to the teen-age Peaches in 2012's Ice Age: Continental Drift. The character was born in 2009's Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs.
