'Finding Dory' remains atop the North American box office

LOS ANGELES, July 3 (UPI) -- Finding Dory is the No. 1 movie in North America for a third, consecutive weekend, BoxOfficeMojo.com announced Sunday.

The long-awaited sequel to 2003's classic, animated, fish tale Finding Nemo features the voice talents of Ellen DeGeneres, Albert Brooks and Ed O'Neill as various denizens of the sea. It took home an additional $41.9 million from screenings in the United States and Canada this weekend.

Coming in at No. 2 for the period July 1-3 is The Legend of Tarzan with $38.1 million, followed by The Purge: Election Year at No. 3 with $30.9 million, The BFG at No. 4 with $19.6 million and Independence Day: Resurgence at No. 5 with $16.5 million.

Rounding out the top tier are Central Intelligence at No. 6 with $12.3 million, The Shallows at No. 7 with $9 million, Free State of Jones at No. 8 with $4.1 million, The Conjuring 2 at No. 9 with $3.9 million and Now You See Me 2 at No. 10 with $3 million.
