LOS ANGELES, June 21 (UPI) -- Independence Day: Resurgence stars Jeff Goldblum, Liam Hemsworth and Joey King attended their sci-fi flick's premiere in Los Angeles Monday night. Also spotted on the event's red carpet were cast members Sela Ward and Charlotte Gainsbourg, and director Roland Emmerich.

The eagerly awaited sequel to 1996's Independence Day is set for release Friday.
"We always knew they were coming back," a synopsis of the new movie said. "After Independence Day redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global spectacle on an unimaginable scale. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens' advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction."
