Michael Bay teases Megatron's return in 'Transformers: The Last Knight'

LOS ANGELES, June 1 (UPI) -- Director Michael Bay has taken to social media to tease the return of of the villainous Megatron in his next film, Transformers: The Last Knight.

"It's starting. This week production. Megatron is back. #transformers #decepticons," the filmmaker wrote on Instagram Tuesday alongside a promotional video featuring the face of the evil Decepticon leader.

The post also highlights how production on the fifth Transformers installment, which brings back Age of Extinction star Mark Wahlberg, begins this week.

The official Transformers Twitter account also confirmed Megatron's impending return noting "A battle is coming." Megatron was seemingly killed by main robot-in-disguise Optimus Prime in the third entry of the series, Dark of the Moon.

A similar promotional video was used by Paramount to announce the new title of the film, The Last Knight featuring a close-up of Optimus Prime's face. "Calling all #Autobots: Optimus Prime is ready for battle. Are you?"

Bay claims The Last Knight, due to arrive in theaters June 23, 2017, will be his last Transformers film. In February, Paramount dated the next batch of Transformers films including Transformers 6 on June 8, 2018 and Transformers 7 on June 28, 2019.
