DUNKIRK, France, May 26 (UPI) -- Harry Styles was spotted with new, short hair on the Dunkirk set Wednesday.

The 22-year-old English singer revealed a short, 1940s hairstyle while filming the Christopher Nolan WWII movie. Styles, who will play a soldier, was wearing a British army uniform.

Dunkirk started principal photography in Dunkirk, France, on Monday, according to a Warner Bros. press release. The movie will shoot in France, the Netherlands, the U.K. and the U.S., and is scheduled for release July 21, 2017.

The film dramatizes the evacuation of over 300,000 Allied troops from Dunkirk in 1940. Sources told The Sun Styles prepared for the role by staying aboard an old Navy ship in less than ideal conditions.

"Harry is used to living the life of luxury, so this will be a very interesting experience," an insider said in April. "He knows this boot camp at sea is a big part of the job ... but this will be tough and producers are trying to make life on board as realistic as possible."

Nolan will direct Dunkirk from his own original screenplay and co-produce with frequent collaborator Emma Thomas. The movie stars Tom Hardy, Mark Rylance, Kenneth Branagh and Cillian Murphy.

Styles revealed he cut his long hair this month by posting a photo of his chopped-off braid on Instagram. The singer donated his locks to Little Princess Trust, a U.K. charity that creates real-hair wigs for sick children.
