NEW YORK, May 19 (UPI) -- Cara Delevingne's road to Suicide Squad included a naked walk through the woods.

The 23-year-old British model and actress detailed her strange preparations for the film in the June/July issue of W magazine. Delevingne will play the sorceress Enchantress in the forthcoming DC Comics movie.

"I met the director, David Ayer, at a hotel in London on a dark and stormy night," Delevingne recalled. "He didn't tell me anything about the movie. Instead, he showed me pictures of these amazing, enlightened, powerful, but very evil women."

"He spoke to me about addiction and mental illness, which are things I find very, very interesting," she added. "The next time I met David was at his house in L.A. He asked me to read a scene from Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?"

Delevingne landed the part after an emotional reading from the Edward Albee play. The actress became "livid" and full of "rage" during the scene, but her prep for Enchantress wasn't quite done yet.

"There still wasn't a script, but David asked me to go and try and find a forest and, if it was a full moon, get naked and walk through the woods with my feet in the mud, which I did," she shared. "There wasn't a full moon, but I howled like a wolf."

In the comics, June Moone, aka Enchantress, is an artist originally given powers to fight evil. The character possesses a dark side, however, which Delevingne previously discussed in the December issue of Empire magazine.

"She's an ancient sorceress," the actress said. "A feral being. She's been trapped for so long and now she's finally let out. June is an adventure-seeker who's always wanted some excitement. And she gets what she wished for, in a terrible way."

Suicide Squad opens in theaters Aug. 5 and co-stars Jared Leto as the Joker, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn and Will Smith as Deadshot. Delevingne is also slated for the sci-fi film Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets.
