WASHINGTON, April 27 (UPI) -- John Cusack and Samuel L. Jackson partner up to fight "cell phone zombies" in a new trailer for Cell.

From writer Stephen King, Cell imagines a world in which an inhuman killer takes control of the population through their mobile phones.

The new trailer, released Tuesday, sees Cusack's character working to relocate his son in the apocalyptic aftermath of the cell phone takeover. Jackson's character aids the father in his quest, often acting as the voice of reason.

Author Stephen King wrote the screenplay alongside Adam Alleca as well as the 2006 novel on which the film is based. Alleca is also behind the screenplay for 2009's remake of The Last House on the Left.

Cell hits theaters July 8 and Ultra Video On Demand June 10.
