Maisie Williams would 'love' to star in 'X-Men: The New Mutants'

NEW YORK, April 20 (UPI) -- Maisie Williams would love the chance to star in X-Men: The New Mutants.

The 19-year-old British actress voiced interest in the project to Entertainment Weekly following rumors she will play Rahne Sinclair, aka Wolfsbane, in the X-Men spinoff.

"I can't say much about it at all, but I would absolutely love to be a part of it, [and] to be a part of the Marvel family," Williams told the website.

"New Mutants looks absolutely incredible and I've always loved the idea of spinoffs and [director] Joshua Boone is incredibly talented," she added. "So, yeah, sign me up."

Williams was first linked to the project in March, along with The Witch star Anya Taylor-Joy, who would play Illyana Rasputin, aka Magik. 20th Century Fox subsequently told Nerdist the casting rumors are "not true."

New Mutants is based on the comic series of the same name, which follow a group of teenage mutants, including Wolfsbane, Magik, Karma, Cypher and Warpath. The teens train under Professor X, Magneto and Cable.

"Josh Boone and his writing partner are working on the script," producer Simon Kinberg recently told IGN. "They're doing a really nice job of it ... It's maybe not as different as Deadpool, but it has its own unique, original voice to it."

"That's the fun for me, working in the X-Men universe, creating these sort of standalone movies that have a different vibe to them," he added. "And New Mutants has more of a [young adult] vibe to it."

"Traditionally, the New Mutants have some characters that cross over from the mainline X-Men movies," the producer revealed. "As we are going, I would say it's likely that you will see some familiar faces."

James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender play young versions of Professor X and Magneto in the Marvel cinematic universe and will reprise the characters in X-Men: Apocalypse. X-Men: The New Mutants does not yet have a release date.

Williams is best known for portraying Arya Stark on HBO series Game of Thrones, which will premiere a sixth season April 24. Alfie Allen, who plays Theon Greyjoy, shared a new preview Tuesday on Jimmy Kimmel Live.
