LOS ANGELES, March 30 (UPI) -- Kristen Wiig will take over for Reese Witherspoon in the female lead role opposite Matt Damon for director Alexander Payne's Downsizing.

Witherspoon reportedly backed out of the role due to scheduling conflicts, Deadline reported. Payne quickly nabbed Ghostbusters actress Wiig to fill in for her.

Christoph Waltz and Hong Chau will also star in the film, set to begin production this year.

Downsizing will be about an Omaha man, played by Damon, who participates in the jarring trend of reducing one's size and moving into tiny communities. The film will see the reunification of Martian co-stars Wiig and Damon.

Payne co-wrote Downsizing with Jim Taylor for Paramount Pictures. It has yet to have a set release date, Entertainment Weekly noted.
