'Batman v Superman' storms the North American box office with $170M in receipts

LOS ANGELES, March 27 (UPI) -- Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice racked up a whopping $170.1 million at the North American box office during its first weekend in release, Rentrak announced Sunday.

The superhero blockbuster stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Gal Gadot and Jesse Eisenberg.

Coming in at a distant second was Zootopia with $23.1 million, followed by My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 at No. 3 with $18 million, and The Divergent Series: Allegiant tied Miracles From Heaven for No. 4 with $9.5 million.

Rounding out the top tier are 10 Cloverfield Lane at No. 6 with $6 million, Deadpool at No. 7 with $5 million, London Has Fallen at No. 8 with $2.9 million, Hello, My Name Is Doris at No. 9 with $1.7 million and Eye In the Sky at No. 10 with $1 million.
