LOS ANGELES, March 22 (UPI) -- Emma Stone has signed on to star as Rose Marie "Rosemary" Kennedy in a new biopic, according to reports.

The film entitled Letters From Rosemary as reported by Variety, will depict the tragic story of the eldest sister of President John F. Kennedy and senators Robert F. Kennedy and Ted Kennedy, who was mentally disabled.

Rosemary was left unable to take care of herself after undergoing a disastrous lobotomy at the age of 23. Rosemary was ignored by her family and parents Rose Fitzgerald and Joseph Kennedy Sr. who placed her in institutional care following the procedure. She died of natural causes in 2005.

Written by newcomer Nick Yarborough, the film will feature the moments leading up to the procedure and the effect it had on the family. The script was found by producers Allard Cantor and Jarrod Murray on the Black List website which collects the best scripts in Hollywood not in production.

Stone was last seen in Aloha and Irrational Man. In January, the actress was in talks to portray fashion-obsessed Disney villain Cruella de Vil of 101 Dalmatians fame in a new live-action film entitled Cruella.
