NEW YORK, March 18 (UPI) -- Henry Cavill went unrecognized in Times Square this week, despite his upcoming role in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

The 32-year-old English actor, who plays Clark Kent, aka Superman, in the DC Comics cinematic universe, recorded and shared a video of himself going completely unnoticed during an outing in New York.

Cavill wore a Superman shirt as he milled around in front of a gigantic Batman v Superman billboard and visited a local Starbucks. The actor discussed the playful experiment on Thursday's episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live.

"There's been so much doubt about the validity of Superman's disguise, which is the glasses," Cavill explained. "I think it was a perfectly reasonable disguise. So I put it to the test."

"The only person who stopped us was someone who was asking for directions to Central Station," he said to audience laughter. "And there was one other person who said, 'Hey, hey, hey, you can't take photos in here.'"

Cavill first played Superman in the 2013 movie Man of Steel and will reprise the character in Batman v Superman, which opens in theaters March 25. He is also slated for The Justice League Part One in 2017 and The Justice League Part Two in 2019.

"We do need these kind of characters because, ideally, they provide a perfect example of what to do and how to be and how to behave," the actor said in a Warner Bros. interview. "They are wonderful characters to compare ourselves against and to compare the actions of others against."

"[Superman's] trying to do the right thing and do the right thing by everyone and ignore the slings and arrows," he added. "At the same time, trying to find an understanding and get a closer connection to humanity."

Cavill is also known for playing Charles Brandon on Showtime series The Tudors and recently portrayed Napoleon Solo in The Man from U.N.C.L.E.
