PARIS, March 17 (UPI) -- Studiocanal has acquired distribution rights for James Gray's Lost City of Z in such territories as the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Australia and New Zealand.

The film, starring Charlie Hunnam, Robert Pattinson, Sienna Miller and Tom Holland, is expected for theatrical release later this year. It will not debut at Cannes Film Festival, Variety reported, because it will not be completed in time.

Lost City of Z is produced by Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner as well as Anthony Katagas and Dale Johnson. It is based on New Yorker writer David Grann's 2009 novel of the same name and follows the story of a curious explorer who searches with his son for El Dorado in the Amazon.

Sons of Anarchy star Hunnam's lead role originally was slated for British actor Benedict Cumberbatch, according to IMDB, but the latter star faced scheduling conflicts due to his upcoming film Doctor Strange.

The film comes after director James Gray's 2013 drama "The Immigrant" and was shot in Northern Ireland and Colombia.
