Robert Downey Jr. on Iron Man 4: 'I don't think that's in the cards'

LOS ANGELES, March 15 (UPI) -- As the release date for Captain America: Civil War nears, star Robert Downey Jr. has expressed doubt about the possibility of another Iron Man sequel.

"I don't think that's in the cards," the actor said to USA Today when asked about a potential Iron Man 4 during a Civil War set visit.

Downey's latest turn as Tony Stark in Civil War sees the billionaire superhero face off against his former teammate Captain America (Chris Evans) after a disagreement over how the government should regulate superheros.

"In a way it's Cap 3 but for me it's like my little Iron Man 4," Downey explained of the upcoming film. "And then it's back to the thing we all recognize. Everything pulls over to the side of the road when the thunder of an Avengers thing comes through because that's how it is until it changes. If it changes."

Downey revitalized his career with the original Iron Man in 2008 which kicked off the Marvel cinematic universe and spawned two sequels. All together the Iron Man franchise has grossed $2 billion worldwide.

Captain America: Civil War hits theaters May 6.

Recently, Marvel studios released the second trailer for Civil War featuring Iron Man introducing Spider-Man (Tom Holland) into the Marvel cinematic universe for the first time.
