SEATTLE, March 8 (UPI) -- Romy and Michele's High School Reunion will be adapted as a stage musical in 2017.

The production is based on the 1997 movie of the same name starring Mira Sorvino as Romy White and Lisa Kudrow as Michele Weinberger, and will premiere June 8, 2017 at the 5th Avenue Theatre in Seattle.

A 5th Avenue spokesperson told Playbill the musical will be workshopped at the theater's second annual NextFest celebration in October prior to its world premiere. The production will then run from June 8 through July 2.

The Goldbergs star AJ Michalka and actress Stephanie Wall will play Romy and Michele, respectively. Wall confirmed the news Sunday on Instagram, with Michalka later posting a photo of the pair in costume.

"Okay, so now I can officially announce that Romy (the ridiculously sweet and talented @ajmichalkaofficial) and Michele are coming to Seattle!!! #romyandmicheleshighschoolreunionthemusical," Wall wrote.

Romy and Michele screenwriter Robin Schiff penned the book for the musical, with music and lyrics by Gwendolyn Sanford and Brandon Jay. Rock of Ages director Kristen Hanggi and choreographer Kelly Devine will direct and choreograph the production.
