LOS ANGELES, Feb. 18 (UPI) -- Actor Christian Bale is set to star in the 19th century-set film Hostiles, reuniting him with Scott Cooper, his director on 2013's Out of the Furnace.

"Set in 1892, Hostiles tells the story of a legendary Army captain, who after stern resistance, begrudgingly agrees to escort a dying Cheyenne war chief and his family back to tribal lands," a synopsis said. "Making the harrowing and perilous journey from an isolated Army outpost in New Mexico to the grasslands of Montana, the former rivals encounter a young widow whose family was murdered on the plains. Together, they must join forces to overcome the punishing landscape and hostile Comanche tribes that they encounter along the way."

Cooper is directing and producing alongside John Lesher and Ken Kao. Waypoint Entertainment will be financing Hostiles, which will begin shooting in July.

Bale is a current Oscar nominee for his work in The Big Short. He previously won an Academy Award for his performance in The Fighter.
