Hampton Fancher, who co-wrote the original film, and Michael Green have penned the sequel screenplay, based on an idea by Fancher and Ridley Scott, the first film's director.

The follow-up takes place several decades after the conclusion of Blade Runner. It is expected to go into production this July.
