LOS ANGELES, Jan. 14 (UPI) -- Amber Heard is now in early talks to join the DC comics cinematic universe as Aquaman's love interest and eventual queen of Atlantis, Mera.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news noting how the actress would first appear in director Zack Snyder's Justice League film before Aquaman and following the March release of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Mera, who first appeared in Aquaman #1 comic book in 1963, is a powerful super heroine in her own right with enhanced strength and the ability to control and solidify water.

Heard would be joining a growing cast of DC superheroes including Jason Momoa (Aquaman), Ben Affleck (Batman), Henry Cavill (Superman), Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman), Ezra Miller (The Flash) and Ray Fisher (Cyborg).

Justice League is set to begin shooting in April and is slated for a Nov. 17, 2017, release date while Aquaman directed by James Wan is set to bow on July 27, 2018.

Heard was last seen in Magic Mike XXL and is currently appearing alongside Eddie Redmayne and Alicia Vikander in The Danish Girl.
