LOS ANGELES, Dec. 23 (UPI) -- Despite Universal and Disney unable to come to terms, actor Mark Ruffalo is still hopeful for a new standalone film featuring the Hulk.

Ruffalo who was recently nominated for a Golden Globe for his role in Infinitely Polar Bear, sat down with Yahoo movies Tuesday to discuss the difficulties in giving the Hulk his own solo film.

"Marvel and Universal famously don't get along very well, and so that's working against us, definitely," Ruffalo said explaining how Universal still owns the rights to the green superhero.

"But I know for a fact that everyone is holding out hope that one day we can do it. But the nature of the relationship right now, it's a little prohibitive. And I hope that that changes, that changes with regimes, it changes over the course of time. But right now it doesn't look particularly promising."

When asked about how Sony, who owns the rights to Spider-Man, was able to cut a deal with Disney in order for the web-head to appear in the upcoming Avengers ensemble film Captain America: Civil War, Ruffalo was still certain that such a deal between the two conglomerates was still unlikely.

"Yeah, I think ultimately that's what they're after, it working out for both sides. But like I said, Marvel and Universal are just not having a good time together right now."

For now, Ruffalo is set to appear as the towering Hulk once again alongside Chris Hemsworth in Thor: Ragnarok set for release in November 2017. When asked about the status of that film, Ruffalo added, "they're still writing the script. That'll start shooting this summer. In June. There's still a lot of work to do on that."

The third Thor installment set to be directed by Taika Waititi will reportedly cover a "Norse Apocalypse" and bring back series antagonist Loki played by Tom Hiddleston.
