LOS ANGELES, Dec. 22 (UPI) -- The Bridget Jones's Baby cast recently posed for Entertainment Weekly.
The magazine's Dec. 31 issue gives a first look at returning stars Renee Zellweger and Colin Firth with newcomer Patrick Dempsey. The forthcoming film is a sequel to Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, and follows Bridget (Zellweger) in her first pregnancy.
"It's so right to tell a story about Bridget in this stage of her life," Zellweger said in the interview. "I love this character, I like that she tells stories about what it's like to be a woman and these really relatable situations at certain times in life."
Firth will reprise Bridget's love interest, Mark Darcy, who proposed at the end of The Edge of Reason. Dempsey will portray "handsome billionaire" Jack Qwant, who poses a greater threat to Mark than Bridget's previous suitor, Daniel Cleaver (Hugh Grant).
"Mark didn't think Daniel was better than him," Firth said. "This guy Jack seems to be more of the charming good guy, and in some ways that's scarier."
Grant, who starred in the original movie, Bridget Jones's Diary, and The Edge of Reason, will not return for Bridget Jones's Baby, having previously told The Independent he feels too old to appear in romantic comedies.
"I think that if it was just me and a girl, batting our eyelids at each other in a full-out romantic comedy, I would look a little sinister and weird at my age," he said.
Bridget Jones's Baby opens in theaters Sept. 16, 2016. The first two films earned a combined $544.4 million at the box office.
