LONDON, Dec. 18 (UPI) -- Simon Pegg says to expect more than just action from Star Trek Beyond.

The 45-year-old English actor discussed the movie with HeyUGuys at the London premiere of Star Wars: The Force Awakens on Wednesday. Star Trek Beyond released a first trailer this week that both delighted and horrified fans with its emphasis on action.

"It was very action-packed," Pegg acknowledged. "I found it to be the marketing people sort of saying, 'Everybody come and see this film -- it's full of action and fun,' when there's a lot more to it than that."

"I didn't love it because I know there's a lot more to the film," he admitted. "There's a lot more story and a lot more character stuff and Star Trek stuff. But they've got to bring a big audience in ... I'd say to Star Trek fans -- hang in there, be patient."

Fast & Furious helmer Justin Lin directed Star Trek Beyond, causing some to believe the movie will be as over-the-top as the explosive action franchise. Lin responded to criticism of the trailer at a Paramount Pictures roundtable Tuesday.

"There were other versions that were much more traditional," he revealed. "But with trailers you're putting a two-hour movie into a minute and a half, and the one thing I wanted to make sure is that it hopefully represents that we are trying to be bold and take risks."

Pegg plays Montgomery "Scotty" Scott in the Star Trek reboot films, and made a surprise appearance as Unkar Plutt in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Star Trek Beyond opens July 22, 2016, and co-stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and Zoe Saldana.
