LONDON, Dec. 16 (UPI) -- Emma Freud, the script editor and wife of Love Actually writer and director Richard Curtis has revealed the secret fate of some of the film's characters.
The fan favorite holiday romantic comedy originally released in 2003 featured a heartbreaking story about Harry (Alan Rickman), who begins flirting with his secretary Mia (Heike Makatsch), and his wife Karen (Emma Thompson) who eventually finds out and breaks down in tears.
An explanation is never given as to what exactly happened after the couple is seen together again towards the end of the film. Now thanks to Freud who answered fan questions about the movie on Twitter Saturday, fans can know what became of Harry and Karen.
"Did anyone ask if Harry ACTUALLY had an affair or was just tempted to," a fan asked Freud to which she responded, "DEFINITELY had an affair. I begged Richard just to make it a flirtation, but no. the whole way."

Despite the affair, Freud said that the couple still stayed together. "Can u please explain outcome for Emma and Alan's character or must I remain eternally confused? I never did work that one out!," one fan explained which Freud answered back, "they stay together but home isn't as happy as it once was."

Freud continued sharing secrets from the film including how various family members were used in small roles, how certain scenes were filmed and more plot points including how characters Sam (Thomas Sangster) and Joanna (Olivia Olson) stayed together after the film ends and how Karl (Rodrigo Santoro) and Sarah (Laura Linney) did not.
