BURBANK, Calif., Dec. 15 (UPI) -- Warner Bros. Pictures released the first teaser trailer for its eagerly awaited Harry Potter prequel Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them Tuesday morning.

"The trailer will give audiences the first glimpse at a never-before-seen part of the wizarding world created by J.K. Rowling," the studio promised in a statement last week.

The fantasy movie -- which marks novelist Rowling's screenwriting debut -- is scheduled to open in theaters Nov. 18, 2016.

Set in the 1920s, it stars Oscar-winning actor Eddie Redmayne in the central role of magizoologist Newt Scamander. The movie was directed by David Yates, who helmed the last four Harry Potter blockbusters in the eight-picture franchise.

Tuesday's trailer, which ran about 90 seconds, features a woman narrating: "Yesterday, a wizard entered New York with a case -- a case full of magical creatures and, unfortunately, some have escaped."

A nervous-looking Scamander is then seen opening the battered case, which emits a roar, before he locks it.

"It was open?" a woman asks.

"Just a smidge," Scamander replies.

The clip closes with the wizard out on a street, dressed in a long, blue overcoat and pointing a wand, as someone yells, 'Mr. Scamander!'"
