LOS ANGELES, Dec. 11 (UPI) -- James Franco and brother Dave Franco started filming The Disaster Artist this week.
The 37-year-old actor was spotted shirtless on the movie's set Thursday in Los Angeles, sporting a long, black wig to play The Room director and star Tommy Wiseau.
Franco had shared a photo of himself and his 30-year-old brother Monday on Instagram, teasing their transformations for the film. Dave Franco will portray actor Greg Sestero, who played Johnny in The Room.
"THE DISASTER ARTIST: The making of THE ROOM." It has begun!!!!!" he captioned the snapshot.
The Disaster Artist is based on Sestero's non-fiction book of the same name, which chronicles the odd and troubled production of The Room. The 2003 drama is considered by many to be the worst film ever made, with Entertainment Weekly calling it "the Citizen Kane" of bad movies in 2008.
Franco and Dave Franco are sons to Betsy Lou and Dave Franco, and have one other brother, Tom Franco. The actors previously co-starred in Milk and The Broken Tower, and are also collaborating on Franco's new movie Zeroville.
Franco will play Jake Epping in Hulu's miniseries adaptation of the Stephen King novel 11/22/63, and is also slated for an adaptation of the John Steinbeck book In Dubious Battle with Selena Gomez. Dave Franco will star in Nerve with Emma Roberts.
