Sofia Boutella in talks to star in monster reboot 'The Mummy'

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 9 (UPI) -- Breakout Kingsman: The Secret Service star Sofia Boutella is in talks to star in Universal's monster reboot of The Mummy.

Boutella is set to play the titular role in the film as a new female version of the classic movie monster opposite Tom Cruise according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The project is being planned as the first in a series of films that interconnect to form a monster movie cinematic universe along with Universal's other classic creatures including Dracula, Frankenstein, the Invisible Man and vampire hunter Van Helsing.

As with Boutella, Cruise remains in negotiations to play a former Navy Seal who has history with Boutella's Mummy, The Wrap reports. Star Trek and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 writer Alex Kurtzman is currently attached to direct the film which is slated for release on March 24, 2017.

Boutella recently wrapped up production on the upcoming Star Trek Beyond where she plays an ailen and just signed on to join Charlize Theron and James McAvoy in The Coldest City.
