LOS ANGELES, Nov. 13 (UPI) -- Lauren Graham, Rob Riggle and Andrew Daly are to star in the big-screen adaptation of the first book in James Patterson's Middle School series, CBS Films announced.

To be directed by Steve Carr, the family movie will also feature Griffin Gluck, Thomas Barbusca, Adam Pally, Efren Ramirez, Isabela Moner and Alexa Nisenson. The screenplay was written by Chris Bowman, Hubbel Palmer and Kara Holden.

Production on Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life is to begin this month in Atlanta and the film is set for release Oct. 7, 2016.

"Over the years, I have had the privilege to meet countless Middle School fans, and I know that today they are just as excited as I am by this incredible cast," Patterson, who is producing and co-financing the film, said in a statement Thursday. "Speaking for everyone involved in this project, we are going to give those fans the movie that they deserve."

Also co-financing the project are Participant Media and CBS Films.
