'Annie Hall' has the funniest screenplay of all time, says the WGA

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 12 (UPI) -- The Writers Guild of America has declared Woody Allen and Marshall Brickman's screenplay for Annie Hall the funniest film script of all time.

The guild released its list of the 101 Funniest Screenplays Wednesday night. The roster spans 86 years of outstanding comedy screenwriting.

Coming in at No. 2 is Some Like it Hot by Billy Wilder and I.A.L. Diamond, followed by Groundhog Day penned by Danny Rubin and Harold Ramis at No. 3, Airplane! by James Abrahams, David Zucker and Jerry Zucker at No. 4 and Tootsie by Larry Gelbart and Murray Schisgal at No. 5.

Rounding out the Top 10 are Young Frankenstein by Gene Wilder and Mel Brooks at No. 6, Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb by Stanley Kubrick, Peter George and Terry Southern at No. 7, Blazing Saddles by Mel Brooks, Norman Steinberg, Andrew Bergman, Richard Pryor and Alan Uger at No. 8, Monty Python and the Holy Grail by Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones and Michael Palin at No. 9 and National Lampoon's Animal House by Harold Ramis, Douglas Kenney and Chris Miller at No. 10.
