Johnny Depp to star in animated 'Sherlock Gnomes'

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 7 (UPI) -- Johnny Depp is to lend his voice to the titular sleuth in the upcoming animated movie Sherlock Gnomes, which is a followup to the 2011 blockbuster Gnomeo & Juliet.

Variety reported Gnomeo & Juliet stars James McAvoy and Emily Blunt will reprise their roles in the Depp film, which is scheduled to be released by Paramount Animation and MGM on Jan. 12, 2018.

To be directed by John Stevenson and produced by Elton John's Rocket Pictures, the movie is about a detective trying to solve the mystery of garden-gnome disappearances in London.

Depp's other animated movies include Rango and Corpse Bride.
