The Snowman is an adaptation of the Jo Nesbo novel of the same name. The crime author has written 10 books starring Hole as a loose cannon detective in the Oslo police force. Working Title Films, who optioned the book, may be interested in bringing the other novels to the big screen as well.

Martin Scorsese will be executive producing along with Nesbo and Working Title producers Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner and Piodor Gustafsson.

Coming off the box-office success of Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation, Ferguson has been in high-demand in Hollywood as she decides between multiple film projects to star in. The actress is in the mix for Ridley Scott's Prometheus sequel which will go into production next year and is also scheduled to appear in Florence Foster Jenkins with Meryl Streep.
