LOS ANGELES, Sept. 22 (UPI) -- The Big Short released a first trailer starring Christian Bale and Brad Pitt on Tuesday. The 41-year-old English actor and 51-year-old American star portray hedge fund managers Michael Burry and Ben Hockett, respectively. Steve Carell co-stars as money manager Steve Eisman, with Ryan Gosling as trader Greg Lippmann.

The preview sees the four real-life characters bet against Wall Street after predicting the 2008 housing crash. The group were among the few to profit during the U.S. financial crisis of 2007 to 2010, as profiled in Michael Lewis' book The Big Short: Inside the Doomsday Machine.
The Big Short is based on Lewis' 2010 book, and directed by Anchorman helmer Adam McKay. The movie will close the AFI Film Festival on Nov. 12, and open in theaters Dec. 23. Melissa Leo, Marisa Tomei and Byron Mann also have roles.

"The Big Short is the perfect exclamation point to our presentation of the year's best films for its equally humorous, humbling and heart-pounding take on today's America."
