'The Jungle Book' releases action-packed first trailer

Disney previously released a live-action adaptation in 1994.

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 15 (UPI) -- The Jungle Book released an action-packed first trailer starring Neel Sethi on Tuesday.

The preview sees the 10-year-old actor navigate the jungle as the feral child Mowgli while Scarlett Johansson menaces the character as the python Raa in a voice-over.

Elf and Iron Man helmer Jon Favreau directed the film, which opens in theaters Apr. 15, 2016. Bill Murray will voice Baloo, with Ben Kingsley as Bagheera, Idris Elba as Shere Khan, Christopher Walken as King Louie and Lupita Nyong'o as Raksha.

The Jungle Book is based on the Rudyard Kipling story collection of the same name, and was previously adapted as a 1967 animated Disney film. The studio released its first live-action remake with Jason Scott Lee as Mowgli in 1994.

Andy Serkis is directing another live-action adaptation, Jungle Book: Origins, for Warner Bros. Pictures. The movie is scheduled for release Oct. 6, 2017, with Rohan Chand as Mowgli and voices by Benedict Cumberbatch, Christian Bale and Cate Blanchett.
