LOS ANGELES, Aug. 6 (UPI) -- Vin Diesel stars as an immortal warrior in a new The Last Witch Hunter trailer.

The 48-year-old actor portrays the character Kaulden, who is tasked with stopping an evil coven from unleashing a plague on humanity. The preview sees him enter a dream world with a beautiful witch (Rose Leslie) and apprehensive priest (Elijah Wood) to save humanity.

Michael Caine also appears as Father Dolan, with Julie Engelbrecht as the Witch Queen who cursed Kaulden and separated him from his family. The movie is directed by Breck Eisner (The Crazies), and opens in theaters Oct. 23.

"We assume the immortality is a gift, but we learn from understanding his world that there is a certain pain that he has been harboring for so long and there's a certain isolation that the character's had to live with," Diesel told Entertainment Weekly.

The actor last appeared as Dominic Toretto in Furious 7, and will reprise the character for Furious 8 in 2017. Leslie is known for playing Gwen on Downton Abbey and Ygritte on Game of Thrones, while Wood portrayed Frodo in The Lord of the Rings trilogy.
