New 'Jumanji' reboot on the way

Popular cinematic board game to be updated in 2016

CULVER CITY, Calif., Aug. 6 (UPI) -- Beloved '90s classic Jumanji is being remade 20 years after its initial release.

Famously starring Robin Williams, the original Jumanji was based on the Chris Van Alburg book of the same name, and went on to gross over $250 million worldwide.

No other information has been given about the reboot, besides its planned Christmas 2016 release date.

The news came as Sony's Pictures announced its upcoming slate of films through 2017, including two more Bad Boys sequels and the sci-fi romance Passengers, starring Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt.
