'Jurassic World' crushes the competition with $204.6M at the North American box office

LOS ANGELES, June 14 (UPI) -- The dinosaur-themed behemoth Jurassic World is the No. 1 movie in North America, earning a staggering $204.6 million during its first weekend in release, Rentrak announced Sunday.

Analysts predict the Chris Pratt-led blockbuster could globally pass the $400 million milestone by Monday morning.

Coming in at a distant second in the United States and Canada for the period of June 12-14 with $16 million is last week's box-office topper Spy, followed by San Andreas at No. 3 with $11 million, Insidious Chapter 3 at No. 4 with $7.3 million and Pitch Perfect 2 at No. 5 with $6 million.

Rounding out the top tier are Entourage at No. 6 with $4.3 million, Mad Max: Fury Road at No. 7 with $4.1 million, Avengers: Age of Ultron at No. 8 with $3.6 million, Tomorrowland at No. 9 with $3.4 million and Love & Mercy at No. 10 with $1.8 million.
