'San Andreas' tops the North American box office with $53.2M

LOS ANGELES, May 31 (UPI) -- The disaster flick San Andreas is the No. 1 movie in North America, earning more than $53.2 million during its first weekend in theaters, Rentrak announced Sunday.

Coming in at No. 2 is Pitch Perfect 2 with $14.8 million, followed by Tomorrowland at No. 3 with $13.8 million, Mad Max: Fury Road at No. 4 with $13.6 million and Avengers: Age of Ultron at No. 5 with $10.9 million.

Rounding out the top tier are Aloha at No. 6 with $10 million, Poltergeist at No. 7 with $7.8 million, Far From the Madding Crowd at No. 8 with $1.42 million, Hot Pursuit at No. 9 with $1.37 million and Home at No. 10 with $1.15 million.
